Just another mugshot sketch. I like using these for practice because of the crisp photography, the expressions, and just the faces. They are so interesting to me! I also wonder what they were picked up for. This image looks to be from the 30′s.
Anyway, I remember doing this drawing a couple months ago when I had the panicky feeling that I had forgotten how to draw. It had been a while (I was doing more sculpting at work than drawing), and like many artists, I thought maybe my last drawing was my last.
So I sat down before dinner, and drew him in about an hour and a half. This is on Bristol vellum, which is sturdier than the Strathmore 300 drawing paper that I like. I’m having trouble getting used to it, it’s a bit toothier than the drawing paper, and I feel like I need to draw larger to account for the texture of the paper.
